I've always wanted to learn algebra - literal equations, it seems like there's a lot that can be done with it that I can't do otherwise. I've browsed the internet for some good learning tools , and checked the local library for some books, but all the data seems to be directed to people who already understand the subject. Is there any tool that can help new people as well?

I have a good idea that could help you with math . You simply need a good program to explain the problems that are hard . You don't need a private teacher, because on one hand it's very costly , and secondly you won't have it near you whenever you need help. A program is better because you only have to buy it once, and it's yours forever . I recommend you to look for Algebrator, because it's the best. Since it can resolve almost any algebra problems , you will certainly use it for a very long time, just like I did. I bought it years ago when I was in Algebra 2, but I still use it sometimes .

I agree, websites on the internet are no better than the course books. Algebrator is a good way to start your math career.

You can find out all about it at https://polymathlove.com/multiplying-numbers.html. It is really the best math help program available and is available at a very reasonable price.
